The coffee belt, also known as the coffee zone, is considered the best growing region for coffee beans. It forms an imaginary band between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, encompassing countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kenya and Vietnam. These areas are known to have ideal conditions for growing coffee beans, including the right temperature, altitude, and rainfall. It’s no wonder that some of the world’s finest coffee beans come from this region!

Kenya coffee has a unique taste profile with bright acidity, full body, a fruity and wine-like flavour, making it stand out from other coffees. It has a complex taste with notes of blackcurrant, citrus, and bergamot. Grown at high elevations, it has a distinct flavour due to the coffee beans having more time to develop. Kenya is one of the largest coffee exporters in Africa, and the beans are hand-picked to ensure only the ripest ones are harvested. The picking methods used are strip picking or selective picking.

Indian coffee is unique for its wide range of flavours and styles, grown in different regions and climates. Coffee from southern India has full body, low acidity, and earthy notes, while coffee from the Western Ghats region has bright acidity and fruity notes. Indian coffee is mostly grown using the “dry process” method, where coffee cherries are sun-dried before removing the beans, giving it a distinct, earthy flavour. This sets Indian coffee apart from coffee grown using other methods.

Colombian coffee is renowned for its unique mild citrus-like acidity, smooth body, and well-balanced flavour profile. Grown in the Andean mountain region, it benefits from the ideal conditions of high elevations, rich soil, and moderate climate. The country’s long-standing tradition of coffee cultivation has led to extensive knowledge and expertise in growing, harvesting, and processing coffee beans. Colombian coffee is certified as 100% Colombian and is also a “Specialty Coffee,” guaranteeing its high quality and adherence to specific standards. Its well-rounded taste, with notes of caramel, chocolate, and fruity flavours, and a nutty aroma make it a distinctive and sought-after coffee.

Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee and home to diverse coffee varieties and regions, each with a unique flavour profile. Ethiopian coffee has low acidity, complex fruity and floral notes, and a clean finish. The traditional method of processing beans, such as drying on raised beds and natural processing, contributes to its distinctive taste. Ethiopia has a wide range of heirloom coffee varieties passed down for centuries, leading to diverse flavour profiles. Popular ones include Harrar, with a full body and fruity undertones; Sidamo, with bright acidity and floral notes; Yirgacheffe, with citrus, bergamot, and jasmine notes; and Limu, with a rich, chocolatey flavour.
